Stockholm Public Library
Stockholm, Sweden
Ever since the first library was opened to the public, the library has slowly been dissolving its walls and merging with the public. The library is now far less a guardian of the books themselves but of public discourse and the democratic availability of information. At their edges they no longer need thick protective walls but ways to actively engage the world around them. In effect, they’ve been turned inside out.
The design of our new addition introduces new accessibility for the public, on the street and an openness and light filled experience on the interior which mitigate the importance of the recorded word with the ever present influence of nature.
